July 21, 2014 Pictures

We were in charge of the home evening program on June 30, 2014.
We have gotten well acquainted with the 8 Liahona students from Papua New Guinea
and Mom invited them to put on the program.  They  talked about their country and
danced some of their traditional village dances.

Their are over 800 languages spoken in Papua New Guinea.  This is their country flag
and flags from each division in the country.  It is a very dangerous country to live in.

At parent teacher student conference they have a program to start out.....
it lasted for two and a half hours and included student entertainment.  Then
the parents went to each classroom to get their students grades.
For entertainment Dorothy Tonga danced some traditional Polynesian dances.
 She is 14 years old.
Mom is congratulating one of the Papua New Guinea students who
received a high honors award.
We presented Counseling certificates to two of our counselors who have completed
their courses.  These two are affectionately referred to as "Big Vika" and "Little Vika"!
Vika Kaufusi and Vika Kivalu

Today is a public holiday here, King Tupou VI's Birthday, but the Senior missionaries
all met at the beach this evening to celebrate the U.S. holiday, complete with sparklers
and hot dogs.  Mom is enjoying the solitude of a sunset walk on the beach.
She can't escape my camera!

Mom enjoys a visit with Sister Tupou.
After reading the ingredients in the local hot dogs, we opted out and
ate salads!  Hot dogs are not the same here!

Friday afternoon is High School Rugby.  We have to come support Liahona's team!
President Tupou always brings his family to the game.  Mom and Elder and Sister
Wood are visiting with part of a group of LDS volunteers who are here for 2 weeks
building houses....kind of like Habitat for Humanity.  The one in yellow is from
Kimberly and the one in red is from Murtaugh, Idaho.

My "kids" picture this week is a common one here.   Everyone snacks on Tomato flavored Chow.
It is their imported Chinese brand of "Ramen Noodles".  They crush it up into small pieces and
eat it dry....they even pour the spice packet into their hand and lick it up!
This young girl is creatively crushing her snack.

Liahona won the game!!!
After the game the teams get in a circle with their arms around opposing team members,
then kneel down and offer a prayer together!  This team is the Methodist High School.

Hmmm....Don't let Mom hold the camera while I'm looking for wood!

I found a large Ngingie bush by the ocean and Bishop Niu needed a big piece
for a carving, so Mom and I took an early Saturday morning excursion to harvest it.
All you need is a bush knife and a small hand saw!
It was easier last time with his chain saw.

The ocean colors were beautiful this morning and Mom was having a lot of fun taking pictures.
We are always fascinated by the beauty and sounds of the ocean....it never gets old!

We have been checking on Bishop Niu's wife quite often, because she was expecting their 6th
child and finally had her first Doctors visit a month ago.  Their 9 pound baby was born two
weeks late.  They now have three under two years and six under seven.

I added a view of the inside of their house just to show the humble homes they live in.
This home is actually nicer than most we see.

No Blog would be complete without the "Big Pig" find of the week.
